Bio

Vanesa Lorena Tate started composing and exploring sounds at the age of four, playing the recorder and piano. She then passed on playing guitar and violin at the “Rudolf Steiner Schule” school. At the age of 9 she enrolled at the “Conservatorio de la Lucila” (Buenos Aires – Argentina) for Piano and Flute. As her family moved to Italy she carried on her studies at the “Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Milano”. She graduated from Flute and Piccolo at the above mentioned conservatoire.

She is a former student of the Royal Academy of Music (London 1997- 2001) in the Media and Applied Music Course. She studied under Nick Ingman (Matrix Reloaded, Brooklyn, Shakespeare in Love), Rick Wentworth (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sherlock Holmes, Justice league) and James Brett (Alien: Covenant, X-Men, The Island).

She freelances in London and Los Angeles as Music Composer, Music Editor, Supervising Sound Editor, Audio Director, Location Sound Mixer and Re Recording Engineer. She has been working alongside Oscar winning directors Shekhar Kapur (Will), Walter Salles (On The Road), Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy 2, Pan’s Labyrinth), Tim Burton (Sweeney Todd), Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu (Babel, 21 Grams, Biutiful), David Yates (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) Stephen Frears (Cheri) and Kevin Reynolds (Robin Hood, Tristan & Isolde).

Early 2012 she embraced the position of Franchise Audio Director for EA Games’ Need for Speed franchise following 3 successfully shipped titles for Criterion Games/EA since 2010 as Audio Director and Franchise Audio Director. She delivered her fourth title “Need for Speed: Rivals” in November 2013 on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. Since then she has continued her work as audio director for AAA games such as Amazon Grand Tourproject Car and project Cars 2, and Red Bull Air Race.

Her work regularly features in competition in some of the most respected international film and games festivals including the Academy Awards, Sundance, Cannes, Venice, Berlin/EFM, Gamescom and E3.

Public Speaking and Mentoring

Vanesa always welcomes the opportunity to share her experience, and inspire others on their journey.

She has been guest speaker at a number of events including:

Stavanger Film Festival/Norway: sound design talk and workshop

Doha Film Festival/Qatar: sound design workshop and 1-to1 mentoring sessions

ComicCon Baltics/ Vilnius, Lithuania: sound design for films and games talks

British Council & Lighthouse A.S.A/ Rio Brazil:

The British Council & Lighthouse are collaborating on the development of a new programme aimed at women working in sound and music in Brazil. The programme is entitled A.S.A. – Arte Sonica Amplificada (Amplified Sonic Art), and is led on the Brazilian side by Oi Futuro. They are a fantastic arts and culture organisation, working across Brazil to deliver a range of education and creative/professional development programmes, including initiatives aimed at young people and emerging artists/practitioners from disadvantaged communities.

Part of the programme is The Sound of Story and it explores the power and potential of sound and music in storytelling. Vanesa was invited to give a couple of talks, run sound design workshops, masterclasses and 1-to1 mentoring sessions to selected participants.
